History
The Garden of Fonte Baxa is an impressive place that was created in the 90s by José Rivera, a businessman from Castilla, and his wife Rosa María Pardo. This garden started as a small project around their house in Luarca, but over time it has become a garden of over 15 hectares with flora from the 5 continents and works of art from around the world. In addition, the garden has benches and viewpoints where the couple spent long hours contemplating the Cantabrian Sea and the town of Luarca. This garden stands out for its unique trees, which were recovered from different places in the world and brought to this corner of Asturias to give them a second life in the wonderful and fertile Asturian land.
The Garden of Fonte Baxa is an impressive garden divided into two parts, connected by bridges, full of paths that lead to discovering a wonderful variety of trees, flowers, art, and viewpoints with views of the Cantabrian Sea and the town of Luarca, possibly making it the most important gardening work of the 20th century in Spain and one of the largest gardens in Europe. How to get to Fonte Baxa?
Visiting Fonte Baxa is a unique experience—and getting here can be part of the journey. There are several easy ways to reach us, each with its own charm. However, please note that car access is limited and parking options are very scarce. That’s why we recommend these alternatives:
From the beach, walking along the trail
One of the most pleasant ways to arrive is by walking from Luarca beach car park. There, you will find clearly visible wooden steps leading to a path surrounded by nature.
At the end of the path, on the left, you’ll see a wooden gate and, just behind it, a traditional Asturian granary (panera). That is our main access for guided tours.
It's important to note this, because right next to the gate there’s another entrance with turnstiles that does not belong to Fonte Baxa and might be confusing if you're not aware.
Just look for the panera and the wooden gate… and you’ll know you’re in the right place.
From the town, walking or driving up through La Peña
You can also come up from the town, either on foot or by car, through the La Peña neighbourhood. If you're driving, the best place to park is at Plaza de la Vicha, which is the closest and most accessible option.
By taxi
Another convenient option is taking a taxi directly to Fonte Baxa’s main entrance. It’s especially practical if you don’t want to worry about parking.
